Guest data stays in your browser

Without an account, puzzles, entries, pencil notes, undo history, practice progress, and preferences are stored in your browser's local storage. You can remove guest data with the app's Clear local data action or by clearing this site's stored data in your browser.

Optional accounts and sync

If you create an account, Neon Auth stores your email address, password credential, and sessions. After you choose to sync, Sudoku Pilot stores selected puzzle progress, played puzzle IDs, preferences, completion totals, and learning history in Neon so they can be used across devices. Imported screenshot images, OCR payloads, and analytics identifiers are not included in account sync.

Resend delivers account verification and password-recovery emails. You can export your synced Sudoku data or delete your account from More → Account. Deleting an account removes its Sudoku sync data and Neon Auth user; clearing local data separately removes data kept in the current browser.

Screenshot OCR uses an online provider

Screenshot OCR is optional. When you start recognition, the selected image is sent to a Sudoku Pilot serverless function hosted by Vercel. That function forwards the image to Sudoku OCR through RapidAPI and returns the recognized grid for review.

Sudoku Pilot does not save the image in browser storage or an application database. Vercel, RapidAPI, and the Sudoku OCR provider process the request. The OCR provider's image handling and retention policy is not publicly detailed. Avoid uploading screenshots that contain personal or sensitive information.

Each online scan uses a metered service that Sudoku Pilot pays for. Users are not charged for scans. Recognition can be unavailable when the site's shared provider quota is exhausted or the service is down. Generated puzzles, manual entry, and ordinary gameplay remain local-first and do not require an image upload.

Hosting and analytics

The site is hosted by Vercel, which may process standard request information needed to deliver the site and protect its services. Sudoku Pilot uses Vercel Web Analytics for aggregate page traffic and PostHog for product analytics. PostHog assigns a persistent anonymous browser identifier and records semantic events such as app opens, puzzle milestones, hints, lessons, practice, and screenshot-import workflow outcomes. These custom events can include aggregate properties such as difficulty, puzzle source, elapsed time, move count, and hint count.

Session replay records puzzle interactions and can include displayed puzzle values, notes, lessons, and hint content. Automatic collection records page views, clicks, scrolls, heatmaps, dead clicks, performance metrics, errors, and console messages. PostHog can also deliver surveys and feature flags configured for the project. The imported screenshot preview remains excluded from replay, and custom events do not attach screenshots or raw puzzle contents. PostHog manages analytics delivery and may buffer or retry delivery after a connection failure. Clearing local data resets the anonymous analytics identifier. The app's source code is available under the PolyForm Noncommercial License 1.0.0. It permits noncommercial use, modification, and redistribution, but does not permit commercial use. The Sudoku Pilot name, logo, and branding are separately reserved. See the third-party notices for separately licensed components and data.
